Abstract Realism
My most recent body of work, pushes the ideas of combining realism and abstraction. By using the technical aspects of realist painting and applying an abstract viewpoint, I give representational imagery new life. My work is derived from photographs that I crop and reposition to remove the context from the image.My paintings then take on an abstract and minimalist aesthetic while still maintaining links to the original source of
imagery. The experience is one of seeing new images, lines and colors in familiar objects. This allows the viewer to explore and interpret what they are observing with greater freedom.
